The sensitivity of the MNA scale is of 96% and although MNA has been found to be highly sensitive in the identification of nutrition-related issues. A criticism of the tool is that it is non-sensitive and maybe at risk of over-diagnosing, which suggests further research is needed to address this. It is also recommended that the MNA should be used alongside with other assessments of nutritional status for holistic examination. In a study comparing MNA with other nutritional tools such as The Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST), it was established that the MNA detected more subjects at risk of malnutrition than any other tools.
