1. Imagine that you are a director planning a production of The Glass Menagerie. Watch the TED Talk video, Julie Taymor: Life on the Creative Edge (link: https://youtu.be/SN7wO06Yz1E ). At the 5:34 minute mark of the video, Taymor begins speaking about the “ideograph”. 

In your own words, define your understanding of the term “ideograph”. 

Chapter’s 10 and 11 describe this same idea using an alternative term. What is the term? – Answer: A controlling idea. 

Next, develop an ideograph for your production of The Glass Menagerie (Link: https://youtu.be/nDPMBDiwL0M). How would you use your ideograph to organize the production? How would your ideograph make itself felt through stage design, costuming, and casting? Be creative with your answer.

2. Review the role of the director as she or he works on a show through conceptual development. pre-production, rehearsals, and through the final production. Which phase is the most interesting to you? Why?
