Week 4:

1.   Mini case scenario 1 assignment: Research and answer the following questions.  Be sure and follow the Grading Rubric for Mini Case Scenarios found in course content area of class.

“Globalization has impacted public sector mangers at every level. However, the impact varies depending on the managers’ location and job. List and explain two ways that globalization specifically impacts how the four following people do their jobs: Do not use the same “ways” for each category. You will have 2 responses for each category below. You need to provide eight different answers in total.

a. The leader of a major industrial nation such as England or Germany

b. The leader of a small industrial nation such as Austria or New Zealand 

c. The leader of a recently emerged developed nation such as India, Brazil or Turkey.

     d. The leader if a developing nation such as Peru, Algeria or Ghana”

Your answer can be brief but be sure that it is complete. First read Module 1, then read the two articles:  “Governance in a Globalizing World” and “New Public Management Current Issues and Future Prospects” found in Reserved Reading folder. You might also have to some internet research. You must provide me your citation of authority to support your response [-1pt if not provided]. You can use my countries or choose other ones. Post answers in assignments folder heading “Mini1” by Mar 23. 

2. Discussion :  Discuss with your colleagues “Centralized versus Decentralized organizations”. 1. Which do you think is better and why? Pick either an MNE or an IGO and discuss whether they are centralized or decentralized and why? Do you feel their choice is the best one for their organization and why? Must pick a MNE or IGO not picked by another student so best to post your complete response early with you pick and comments.   See Discussion section of class room. Must furnish citation of authority to back up your initial discussion of the  questions. Must post initial response to discussion questions nlt midnight Thursday Apr 10, and two substantive comments to other student comments nlt 6pm Sunday.  See grading rubric for Discussions.

3. Discussion : Discuss with colleagues “Like health and safety laws, labor laws vary around the world.Pick a country [not picked by another student] and research that countries labor laws and discuss at least 2 issues that may give a US company concern and why, if they were to do business in that country.”   See Discussion section of class room for details.  Module 1, reserved readings, and independent research required. Must furnish citation of authority to back up your initial discussion of the  questions. Must post initial response to discussion questions nlt midnight Thursday Apr 10, and two substantive comments to other student comments nlt 6pm Sunday.  See grading rubric for Discussions.
