Survey Research

For this discussion, choose a research area you would like to learn more about. Design a study using one of the survey approaches introduced in Chapter 4 of your course textbook.

Discussion 1 Include the following in your post: o Briefly describe the main points of your study. o Apply aspects of the scientific method to your study by including the type of sampling you will use in your research design and why you chose the approach that you did to study this topic. o Include two sample questions that will be a part of your study. Explain why each of these would be good questions based on the principles presented this week. o Analyze the ethical principles which may affect your study. What are the specific ethical concerns associated with your research question or approach? o Finally, suggest ways to improve the response rate or participation levels in your study.

Discuss 2 Assume that you applied the method proposed in the research study you designed for the first discussion activity this week and now have the data. Which of the methods used for analyzing survey data would you use and why? Be sure to explain why the approach that you are proposing to use for data analysis is consistent with the survey research method that you employed. In addition, identify the measurement scale (nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio) of the data you obtained and differentiate the research terminology used.

Your initial post should be 250 to 300 words. Utilize a minimum of two peer-reviewed sources that were published within the last 10 years and are documented in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.ion 2

Survey

Complete the Leadership Style Survey at: http://www.nwlink.com/~donclark/leader/survstyl.html Tabulate your score related to your leadership style and answer the following questions.
a. What was your dominant leadership style according to this survey?
b. Describe this leadership style and how it relates to how you function in your work, school, and/or home environments.
c. How does this leadership survey address the basic leadership traits and management characteristics as outlined in your book?

In my place of work I am not a leader but I am part of a group environment.  This survey do not apply to me at this time.  I do believe in taking the initiative at work and at home in getting the job done.  As a manager in the past I was an authoritative, dominating, assertive and a true team player.  I did not have a problem with leading a group as well as working together with my team as a whole.  I believed in problem solving and for each team member to work together in order to get the job done.  Even if it calls for me to step in to help out.

Survey

How Many People to Survey?

Gallup poll results are prevalent in the media especially leading up to elections as are reports on surveys done by universities and research groups like the Pew Research Center.

The survey results of small groups of people are used to portray a general consensus about a population. Ever wonder how many people should be included in a survey to make it a meaningful reflection of a population? Now you will be able to answer your own question. Be warned; you will never feel the same about these polls and surveys again.

Using the following specific resources, create a lecture (with citations) which includes the following:

Part 1: Survey Analysis

Entertainment Survey

Using a newspaper article from the AIU library’s full-text database: Newsstand (ProQuest), create a lecture (with citations) which includes the following:

  • Describe an entertainment poll or survey. Analyze the number of people who participated in the sample compared to the number in the population. Most news articles will not provide information on the number of people surveyed. In this case critique the validity of the results. (Be sure to cite the article which must be from Newsstand -ProQuest) Here is a Research Guide.
  • Discuss how the results of the survey can be used to tell a story or support an idea of the sponsoring company or media group.

Political Survey

Using polls from one of the following sources:
