Overview:The culminating project for the Synthesis of Educational Theory Domain is writing a significant research paper that describes your vision of the purpose and structure of schools in the future. In order to develop a vision of education for the future, it is important to understand educational trends, practices, and theories of the past. In preparation for the Synthesis of Educational Theory domain, this assignment requires a 4-6 page paper on a topic of historical importance in education. The following is a suggested list of research ideas.

Brown vs. Board of Education Educational Theory (Progressivism) Educational Trends Existing Philosophies in Education The following is a checklist of writing elements and the writing process for this assignment. There will not be direct instruction on all of the elements. It is assumed that students have learned these skills while working in the Language and Communication domain. Consider principles of plagiarism and copyright laws when constructing your paper.

A. Identify the synthesis paper topic and create a title clearly reflecting the topic.

B. Read and research topic. Create a formal outline organizing the main ideas and details for the paper. Submit this outline with finished paper.

C. Begin writing the paper by identifying the audience and formulating an effective and captivating introduction.

D. Formulate a thesis statement that defines the paper topic.

E. Organize the research into a cohesive presentation.

The body of the paper should provide supporting points for the thesis statement in a sequence of organized paragraphs. Provide transitions by establishing a connection between paragraphs.

Provide evidence in the form of specifically cited examples or information from works read on the topic using appropriate APA format. F. Create a specific conclusion that restates the thesis and summarizes the paper.

G. Present the final document in correct APA format. Make certain that the work includes correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.

H. When you use sources, include all in-text citations and references in APA format.
