As the world’s urban population balloons, many of the novice urban dwellers in the megacities of the developing world live in neighborhoods known as slums. These neighborhoods are generally characterized by rampant poverty, substandard housing and poor living conditions. However, they are also high density, highly walkable, and often have a vibrant street life- all characteristics of successful urban neighborhoods.
